Character Information
Name: Rose Lalonde
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
School Year: Fourth Year
Gender: Female
Age: 14
Out of school living location: Southern France, probably around Montpellier, France.
Blood status: "Pureblood"
Personality:
Rose is different from what you would aspect from an average girl. While she still uses the internet at probably unholy times and makes friends through it, she acts far beyond her actual age. She is verbose, never to use abbreviations such as "lol" or "omg" and uses full punctuation and capitalization. It might stem from her love for literature and the fact that she indulges in writing her own telltale fiction of wizards and the occult genre. She is also interested in psychology and psychoanalysis, always psychoanalyzing her friends (although Dave usually is the victim of her attempts) and always seemingly analytical towards everything her searching eyes land on. She is fairly intelligent in every regard, able to deduce things with information she is given. And her deductions are fairly accurate, although she is prone to mistakes like everyone else is. She may seemingly be ahead of everyone else, but she is still young.
Rose will admit to mistakes though. When she makes some, she will apologize for them, although that doesn't particularly mean she isn't stubborn. She surely is, and will go as far as she can with what she's doing until it is time to admit that they were wrong or that what she did was a mistake.
She is all about control and appearance. Rose does everything in her power to come off how she wants to be. In control, articulate, intelligent. She does nothing but to make sure none of her weaknesses show and only comes off as how she wants one to see her as. She is obsessed with having control, and becomes stressed when she loses it. One can see that as when she has Dave as her Server Player, not being able to do things, but wait for Dave.
It's also because of her nature that she holds all her friends art arm's length. Hiding behind finely constructed walls, Rose's conversations with even her friends may come off as cold and clinical, only saying just enough to get her point across, while avoiding any emotional distress or attachment in anyway. Of course her friends stick around her and probably view it as just how she is, but it's her way of keeping herself guarded. She is fairly cynical, brushing off endearing signs of affection as nothing more then false. Her need for keeping everything about her private, unfortunately makes it fairly easy for her to do this. Even when she speaks of her mother, she only proceeds to complain about her mother. It isn't to say she hates her mother, as she loves her dearly. But she only sees her mother's actions as passive-aggressive jabs at her, and lies no sincere feelings in the gesture. Despite that, Rose's feelings for her mother are genuine. She merely acts like the typical teenager, who does nothing but try to hate their parents while going through their nefarious, rebellious stage.
While Rose may seem heartless or cold, it is far from that. She cares deeply for those who have become close to her. It may not seem like it, but she has shown her concern in more ways then one. While her words do not seem loving, her actions make up for it. When her mother is killed, she does nothing but seek revenge, even going Grimmdark because of it. She attacks Bec Noir when he kills John in front of her, but having a look of sympathy just before when John mourns over his father's death. She would not even agree to Dave going on the suicide mission, knocking him out with a ball of yarn then departing on her own (which later is foiled as he goes after her). While she struggles to let them into her more private life, she still shows her concern and affections in other ways.
Like her name though, every rose has its thorns. And she has a fair amount of her own. Rose is dangerous as she is verbose. With a cold and calculated demeanor, she wreaks havoc in a way that would surprise anyone. She refuses to go down without a fight. She's downright terrifying when she wishes to be. When she is told of her session ultimately being doomed, Rose goes on a rampage on her planet, destroying everything in her wake. It's enough to make Aradia actually contact her to tell her to stop. She takes down ogres with nothing but her knitting needles, and eventually becoming even more terrifying when she alchemizes her magic wands. Because of her attitude, she has the tendency to jump into things that go way above her head.
Canon Background: Homestuck Wikia and Rose's article
Background (AU!Canon; HP): Pooting
Rose is the daughter of Roxanne Lalonde. While her full name happens to be Rosaline Joanne Lalonde, she only introduces herself as Rose. If you call her anything but Rose, she may have to resort to very ill measures, so you best keep it to that. Rose's lineage is of very high caliber. While she is a pureblood, it is surprising to know that Rose contains a very small portion of Veela in her. It's a very small portion(probably doesn't even exceed 1/16 much less make up that much). Rose is rather pretty because of it, but it's also very obvious that the small percentage of Veela shows when her temper is put to the test. It isn't quite a stretch though, as Rose's mother and herself are seen to be fairly beautiful in the eyes of others, but it isn't readily known information as it's fairly diluted. If anything, whatever extra attention she may have gotten from it is actually quite bothersome in her opinion. It is also hard to tell whether Rose is aware of it or not, as she never speaks about it and the information isn't public as far as anyone is concerned. Despite that, her mother is fairly successful and Rose is very well off.
Rose grew up in Montpellier, France. While she lived in a large estate in the countryside, they lived close enough to still be around civilization. Her mother was a fairly sociable woman, which was surprising, when Rose showed signs that she didn't care much for social interaction. She loved her books and fiction and delved into the worlds of what she read. How ironic was it that the fantasy novels she read would quickly become an actual part of her life. She still traveled a fair amount with her mother, mostly sticking to the European countries.
What Rose did not know was that she was the offspring of Roxy Lalonde and Dirk Strider and that she had a twin brother named Dave. Rose knew nothing about her father and twin, separated at birth due to conflict in which the parents separated. It is unknown what would have happened if the family stayed together, but one could say that Rose and her mother had a very odd relationship. It was a relationship fueled by passive aggression and love. Rose, while loving her mother, had hit the age in which she only saw her mother's actions as scornful and mocking. They often had rather strange battles in which one would try to one up the other in an art of passive aggression that clearly did not make much sense (Rose bought her mother a martini glass whom decided to cast it in gold so she may display such a gift. Rose retaliated by having a column constructed by only one of the best, and it just escalated from there).
Despite their strange relationship, Rose flourished. She excelled in whatever she put her mind too. By the time her letter arrived, she could ride horses, was one of the best fencers in her division, and her grades were perfect. What was slightly surprising was that her letter was from Hogwarts, and not Beauxbatons, who were closer. Of course, Rose was pleased. She didn't want to be in the shadow of her mother, whom attended Beauxbatons and her mother was fine with sending Rose off to England for school. While Rose kept herself as composed as possible, she was very excited to finally become part of the wizarding world. Her fiction brought to life and that she even would be part of it.
Rose was sent off to England, having an escort who would help her gather what she needed in Diagon Alley and staying at the best hotel a mother can get while she stayed there. Rose was used to her mother being neglectful (which is to say, she didn't really perceive it as englectful anyways) at times. She knew her mother must had pressing matters, which would make it impossible for the woman to be there when she was sent off to Hogwarts. Honestly, she preferred that her mother were not present. Who knew what the woman would do to embarrass her at the train station! And her mother had shown her love in a different way. When Rose arrived at the Station, she had all her belongings, plus a young cat by the name Vodka Mutini(Mutie for short). Rose didn't know what breed the cat was, but her mother had obviously given it to her as a parting gift and a congratulations to finally be going to school. She boarded the train with no problems.
At school, Rose excelled in all her classes. She studied hard and seemed like a natural even. Even if she were not a natural, her ambition to be successful fueled her. Rose was slightly infuriated to find that, while she could ride horses, she was not all too cut out for flying. She would only be a decent flyer at best and decided that it wasn't worth her time. Still, as long as she did her best in her academics, it was only a minor set back.
What was surprising was when Rose entered her third year of Hogwarts. She had taken up Divination as an elective, and was found have the traits of a true seer. It's unknown whether it runs in Rose's blood, but Rose finds that her predictions in class are surprisingly accurate. Rose spends a copious amount researching in that specific branch, although she still keeps to her academics. While she may exhibit seerlike powers, she would hate to sell herself short if she can excel in everything else she puts herself too.
Rose spends her Summer, touring Germany on her own for a little while, spending whatever rest back home in France.

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor:
Rose would do well in Gryffindor. Although she may act uncaring and even cynical, she is a courageous being with a good heart. She will leap into danger to protect those she cares and go against whatever may be in her way even if the odds are against her. She is a stubborn child and very bold in her actions. She has the nerve to do what she thinks is right, even if the actions that portray it may seem extreme or downright dirty.
Hufflepuff:
Rose wouldn't be well suited for Hufflepuff. She constantly strives to be above others and would consider being in this house as a failure. She is rather too ambitious and her personality isn't well suited as a Hufflepuff. While she isn't a terrible person, she can come off as cold and uncaring and would most likely look quite unfitting for being a Hufflepuff as tolerance isn't exactly a strong suit of her. While she is loyal to her friends, she can seem flighty and it is sometimes difficult to see where her loyalties lie.
Ravenclaw:
Rose could be a Ravenclaw. She is very text oriented, enjoying fine literature. She's the smartest of the Beta kids and she can be rather studious, as she sought all sorts of knowledge of SBURB in canon. She's sharp and extremely gifted for her age.
Slytherin:
Rose really would make the perfect Slytherin though. Not only is she a pureblood, but she rather fits the bill as one who belongs to Slytherin. She is cunning as she is brilliant and bold. What puts her more as a Slytherin than that of a Gryffindor is what she's willing to do to achieve her goals. Rose refuses to be a step behind and only intends to stay a step above everyone else. Her ambitions are unrivaled and she takes her studying farther than anyone else she knows. While the Ravenclaws are sharp and quick witted, she finds they are not ambitious enough to really attain the highest in which they can achieve. Rose also has an affinity and a particular interest in the dark arts. Black magic has her curiosity and she is fairly attracted to it, although she denies that it's anything more than just a hobby. Rose is seen as being one of the most resourceful of the group of kids and she hates to be a follower. It stresses her our when control isn't in her hands.
RP Samples: Dressing Robes Post!
Third Person Sample:
Rose pressed the ends of her fingers together as she stared at the contents of the book she was reading. Her brows furrowed a bit, but said nothing as she continued to hear the whispers of her peers. Rose knew she wasn't the friendliest of sort, nor was she immune to having rumors. She knew of what some of the other kids have said about her, but didn't bother to refute any claims that were made. They were rumors after all. Eventually, they would blow over without any concrete evidence to back them up. And surely, rumors of her experimenting in the dark arts were as farfetched as they could get! Sure, she found the interesting, but she wasn't dumb.
However, she became very aware of what those girls were saying as soon as her mother were mentioned. A drunkard. Neglectful. Frivolous. Promiscuous. She felt her hands tighten on the edge of her book, the more they spoke, before the resounding slam was heard throughout the library. She quietly got up, tucking the book under her arm and heading over to where the girls were so she can put it back on the shelf. They both stared at her, eyes wide, but she remained calm as can be. Before she turned to head out, she looked them both over. "Next time you decide to speak about name tarnishing rumors of someone's parent, I would recommend that you do it in the privacy of your quarters or at least choose topics that may actually be true. You wouldn't want to wake up with your hair missing or your beds bewitched to the roof. That would lead to a rather unfortunate morning." Rose smiled sweetly, but her eyes showed something much less sincere and downright dangerous.
She turned and headed out of the library, a smirk on her features. She knew her point got across. She didn't need to see the horrified expressions to know. It's not like she was defending her mother in anyway. No, this was merely just making sure that other people got their facts straight. Not because she cared. At least, it has to be because she only wanted people to know the truth and not because she cared. If she keeps telling herself that, surely it is true. And her mother was not here to defend herself, anyways! "Hmph. How bothersome."
